Thought

“Why are you so wary of thought?” the philosopher asked the Master. “Thought is the one tool we have for organising the world.”

“True. But thought can organise the world so well that you are no longer able to see it,” the Master replied

To his disciples he later said, “A thought is a screen, not a mirror; that is why you live in a thought envelope, untouched by Reality.”

Anthony de Mello (1931-1987) was an Indian Jesuit priest and psychotherapist. A spiritual teacher, writer and public speaker, De Mello wrote several books on spirituality and hosted numerous spiritual retreats and conferences. He continues to be known for his storytelling, which drew from the various mystical traditions of both East and West.
