Once there was a drought-hit village. There were absolutely no rains for three to four years. The villagers, who were solely dependent on agriculture for their livelihood, were almost starving to death. After some time, all of them decided to perform a yajna, a Hindu religious ritual with a specific objective, to invoke rains.
The venue and time for the yajna were decided and it was made compulsory for all the people in the village to attend.
As per the schedule, slowly, all the villagers started to gather at the venue. One villager brought with him an umbrella. Seeing this, all the others burst into laughter. They all thought that he has become mad.
The yajna was performed and after partaking the offerings, people started to leave. To their pleasant surprise, the sky darkened and in a few moments there was a heavy shower.
Everyone ran up to the person who was holding the umbrella. They asked him what made him carry an umbrella to the event.
He simply replied, “I had faith in the yajna.”
