Once, an old man was sitting on the outskirts of a hamlet.
A traveller passing by approached him and asked, “Sir, how are the people in this village? I am planning to migrate from my village and settle in some good village…”
The old man asked him “How are the people in your village?”
The traveller replied, “Very rigid, selfish and cunning.”
The old man promptly told him, “Young man, in this village also you will only find rigid, selfish and cunning people!”
A little later, another traveller was passing by. He too put the same question to the old man.
The old man asked him, “How are the people in your village?”
The traveller answered, “The people in my village are very loving, kind and generous.”
The old man replied, “…then you will also find the same kind of people here….”
South Korea and Switzerland issued joint postage stamps in September 2023 to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Small traditional villages have been chosen in both countries as motives. The historic village of Oeam in mid-western South Korea is situated in the foothills of Seolhwasan mountain, not far from the city of Asan and about 95 kilometres from Seoul.
